Categories for a Residency Program

To begin with, there are three types of Residency Programs:

1) University Program: A program which is named after the university and usually on the campus. Best for people who are looking for an academic post later on. They offer lots of group discussions and up to date information.

2) Community Hospital: it is a hospital not governed by a university program. The work environment is quite relaxed and friendly. Usually there are no research opportunities.

3) University affiliated program: it is a hospital that works with the university and there is some sort of supervision on the curriculum. It is somewhere between the University and Community hospitals.

It is very necessary to know this information in order to know where to apply to according to your needs and future goals. At the other end, you must not be too fussy about small details as our main aim is to match in the USA. Here I have listed a table that would help you see the main things that you should look for in a program

This table shows the differences between programs and is true most of the time. If you are looking for specific information you have to check the website for each program on its own.
